If the traveler is interested in an adventure trip and going deeper into the desert, this circuit is ideal. It combines two different areas of the Sahara desert (Erg Chebbi and Erg Chigaga).
We detail the option to Erg Chebbi but the circuit can be done through Erg Lihoudi or Erg Chigaga.
Pick up at 8 am at the accommodation in Ouarzazate. We continue along the road towards Skoura, a large palm grove of 25 km. From there we will pass through the Valley of the Roses, to reach the Dades Gorge (some gorges in the Dades River Valley, between Boumalne Dades and Msemrir) and the incredible Todra Gorges. We will continue towards Merzouga and we will cross the Palmeral de Jorf and Erfoud, a small town where you can visit a marble workshop.
We will arrive at Merzouga, where we will leave the 4x4 to enter the desert on a dromedary, up to the dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will arrive at the camp where we will spend the night in haima or, if preferred, in a hotel near the dunes.
After enjoying the sunrise in the desert, we will take the track through several lost towns and desert landscapes. We will arrive at Zagora, the last city before reaching the M'hamid desert. We will sleep in a hotel.
Day 3 Zagora - Draa Valley - Tamgroute - Tagounite - Ouled Driss - Sacred Ouasi - ChigagaWe will leave Zagora, after breakfast, entering the Draa Valley. We will pass through Tamgroute, a town known for its green pottery. We will continue until we reach Tagounite, some 52 kasbahs surround the town and we will visit some of them. If the day falls on a Thursday or Sunday we will have the option of taking a walk through the town's souk (traditional market).
Then we will continue south and pass by Tajine Mountain, Ouled Driss and M'hamid, where the asphalt ends. We will enter the track to start the adventure (for about 3 or 4 hours), through desert landscapes, hamada, stone desert and an oasis until we reach the heart of the desert, in Erg Chigaga.
At the camp we will be received with a tea ceremony, a typical Moroccan welcome. We will take a dromedary ride through the dunes to see the sunset. We will enjoy a typical Moroccan dinner and sleep in a nomadic haima.
We recommend getting up early to see the sunrise and enjoy the sunrise from the great silence of the desert.
We have a traditional breakfast and start the return to Marrakech along the old Paris-Dakar track, passing by Lake Iriki (a salty and dry lake). We continue to Foum Zguid, where we return to the asphalt, we arrive at Taznakth, a town known for the manufacture of carpets. We continue to Ouarzazate, at your accommodation or airport.
It depends on the number of people, season and conditions.
